Should Champ sell the land to an oil prospector for more than the farm is worth? Should he skip town with his married girlfriend, Sadie (Jaime Luchuck)? Or should he stay on the farm and honour a vanishing way of life?
Haunted by painful memories of the past, Champ must chart a new course. But only if he can confront the demons of the past, can he heal the wounds of the present.
Jeremy Major directs this festival flick about unloved souls who are emotionally wounded and scarred by years of family miscommunication.
Jaime on Sadie, Heartland Son and filming the movie
I was trying so hard to work consistently as an actress. It’s very hard to land parts as an actress, and I was on a roll. I had been cast in a string of short little indie films. And the lead in a feature-length horror film. But, in the world of movie-making, schedule problems and lack of budget either made production end before it began, or end before the final product was edited.
Then I auditioned for the role of Sadie in Heartland Son (amazon link). All of the other cast were in place. But they hadn’t found their Sadie. Originally the part called for a dark-haired vixen – and I was very willing to dye my hair. But they loved the new blonde Sadie – and I was cast.
The movie was shot in October. Some Octobers are really nice – this one wasn’t. It was bloody cold. And I, as Sadie, was dressed in some pretty skimpy clothing. My body would shake, almost uncontrollably, during the scenes. And then as soon as the director yelled “Cut!” a crew member would rush me out a winter parka.
But you would never know it was so cold. The scenes are bright and sunny – and my nose doesn’t look at all red.
I had so much fun playing Sadie. No body likes her – she’s the bad girl. Playing a bad girl is far more fun than playing a good girl.
When the movie screened, people just hated her. In fact,at the first screening, some audience members were scared to come up and talk to me because they thought I was a real b*tch. (I’m not, by the way).
Okay – I really want to watch this movie
